About the Daycare

Campus Community Cooperative Daycare provides stimulating and challenging programming in a warm and supportive community atmosphere that encourages diversity, inclusivity, cooperation, and transparency. Our staff create and deliver high-quality, child-centred programming that inspires children and emphasizes communication, decision-making, and free choice. The Daycare is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from both the Spadina and St George TTC stations on the University of Toronto’s St George campus.

Campus Community Cooperative Daycare offers healthy vegetarian snacks and hot lunches prepared fresh by our on-site cook. Menus are planned with value placed on local and seasonal produce and offer a wide range of food experiences. The Daycare is peanut-, tree nut-, and sesame-free, with no outside food allowed. Our cook is committed to partnering with families to accommodate food allergies.

Parent Involvement

Although not required, parents of the Centre are encouraged to be engaged in a way that suits their interest and schedule—by volunteering for one of the parent-staff committees that meet monthly to support the Daycare's operations or by helping out with a special project or event. Parent involvement creates a community of caring families that are supportive of one another, and we welcome you to join us!

Parent-Staff Committees

The Daycare is governed by committees, composed of both staff and parents. Parents can volunteer for one of the following parent-staff committees that meet monthly to support the Centre’s operations:

  • Coordinating Committee supervises overall operation

  • Finance Committee oversees financial affairs

  • Staffing Committee responsible for recruitment and staffing matters

  • Fundraising Committee organizes events and fundraisers

  • Communications Committee maintains website, newsletters, and other communications

Other Ways to Help

Outside of committee membership, there are a number of ways to help out:

  • Volunteer time in a classroom

  • Accompany a group on a field trip

  • Volunteer at an event

  • Special projects

  • Fundraising or donations

The Kitchen

Campus Community Coop Daycare offers healthy vegetarian snacks and hot lunches prepared fresh on-site. Our daycare has an on-site chef who prepares nutritious meals each day. A hot lunch is provided, in addition to morning and afternoon snacks.

Menus are planned with value placed on local and seasonal produce and offer a wide range of food experiences. Fresh fruit and/or vegetables are included with each meal, and processed foods are avoided. Because the daycare is vegetarian, proper protein combinations are met through ample servings of beans, grains, eggs, dairy, and tofu products. Meals and snacks are served with milk and/or water.

Campus Community Coop Daycare is peanut-, tree nut-, and sesame-free, with no outside food allowed. Our chef is committed to partnering with families to accommodate food allergies.

Our Story

To learn more about the history of the Campus Community Cooperative Daycare, you can read the article “Fifty Years of the Campus Community Co-Operative Day Care Centre” that the digital archive of feminist activism Rise Up! published in 2019 on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Daycare on the University of Toronto campus.

The University of Toronto Archives and Records Management Services also has records created and accumulated by one of the founding members of the Campus Community Coop Daycare, which predominantly consists of materials documenting the formative years of the cooperative, with particular focus on the events of 1970 and 1972.
